Creativity and Copyright Infringement
Hello, fellow Steemians!
I've seen a lot of posts, lately, where the "author" grabs images from the web. Sometimes they don't even add text to their post, just inserting several amazing photos they found online. Very few such posts ever give credit to the photographer or site the image comes from.
About a month ago, I mentioned in the comments to one such post that they should credit the photographer. The response? I was informed that the photos were from Google image search, and Google already gets enough credit. In other words, the poster believed that it was alright to steal images that show up on Google search without even giving credit. My own copyrighted photos show up on Google searches.
Why does this matter? Most photographers, like authors, copyright their images to protect their work. Using these images without permission, especially for personal financial gain, is illegal for a reason. The photographer is not paid or even identified, and so gets nothing for his or her work while the poster reaps the rewards.
Please respect others' creativity!
To my followers: More photography coming soon, I promise!
Thanks,
these feel impossible to stop. unoriginal youtube videos too.
hope youre well though!
It's a very welcomed reminder... We all seem to take that for granted. Thanks!
Anytime you see an issue, you can take action immediately. Within Steemit.chat, go to the #steemclears-linkdrop channel. You can say, briefly, what the issue is. But other than that, no discussion, just drop the link there. Here are their rules, taken from the pinned information on that channel:

Hope that helps.
Very nice photos! Why your photos are always much better than mine! @fotosdenada
Thanks! I'm hoping to post more soon. Surgery set me back a little, but soon...
I like your photos, you are beautiful and nice @fotosdenada
Thank you! My next post will be photography.
Very nice blog . @fotosdenada
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY...preach it brother! These are the types of people that aren't meant for this community and thankfully those kinds of posts and users get weeded out of the mix organically and by bots and such.
Thank you! Yeah, it's just a pity people do it. Fortunately, there are a lot of great photographers sharing their work here, too.
Well said that is something that frustrates me as well, all I post are my own photos
Will resteem this to help make sure more see it
Thank you! :-)
Yup so true. This happens on all social media Facebook being the worst ofender.
But Steemit is FOR PROFIT and Facebook is not! When you use images on here you use them commercially. Even if someone has paid a license, the terms of stock licenses don't allow for a profit to be made from the actual image - only from products like greeting cards and t-shirts etc. Profits from the use of the images belong to the photographers!
Yes agreed. I was simply stating that I see that on all the social media that I am or have been a part of.
Good topic.....,
