Combat knives of Russian Spetsnaz

Despite the incredible development of modern military technologies, edged weapons are still in service with the armies of all nations of the world.
Particular attention is given to equipping special purpose units. Everyone in a special purpose unit has his own special knife designed for specific tasks. Combat knives of Russian Spetsnaz were developed by greatly experienced specialists, most of whom were directly involved in combat operations. Here you can see the weapons used by Russian fighters to stop their enemies.

NRS-2

In service: the Marine Corps, Airborne Troops (VDV)
By 1986, the famous scout shooting knife (NRS) had been modernized. The saw on the spine was reduced, the blade was sharpened to the spearpoint form. A new noiseless cartridge SP-4 was also developed. The inbuilt shooting mechanism is provided by two separate levers which guarantee protection against accidental discharge. A modified version of the NRS-2 with a container of survival equipment instead of the shooting mechanism was also developed.

Shaitan

In service: Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tatarstan
Shaitan (the Demon) is a knife developed specially for a power unit of the Tatarstan Ministry of Internal Affairs. Combat knife "Shaitan" was designed in accordance with the requirements of field specialists who clearly understand the ultimate purpose of the knife. The narrow blade inflicts deep wounds. Serration is able to cope even with the 12 mm thick mountaineering rope. The knife is very balanced, it can be used as a throwing weapon.

Akela

In service: SOBR
“Akela” knife is developed under the order of SOBR (Russian Special Rapid Response Unit). This is the special police knife which is most suitable for using in crowded places and constrained city conditions where application of firearms is impossible. The special sheath construction allows for mounting the knife on civil or army ammunition easily, in any convenient position for a fighter. Rubber handle does not slip and provides maximum comfortable gripping.

Gurza

In service: FSB (Federal Security Service)
The narrow blade with sesquialteral sharpening is supplemented with serration on the spine. Special metal element on the handle top is designed specifically for making shocking attacks on the enemy.

Katran-1

In service: frogmen
"Katran" knives differ in the material of handle and  the type of blade. Depending on modification, these weapons are used as  a fighting knife, an underwater knife or a survival knife. "Katran -1" is developed specially for combat swimmers. The sharpening of the spine is an undulating saw. A partly serrated edge and a fishing net cutting hook are placed at the blade root.

Vityaz NSN

In service: "Vityaz"detachment
The construction of this knife was personally developed by the Hero of Russian Federation and the President of Maroon Beret Brotherhood, Sergey Lysyuk. Heavy and massive knife with a narrow blade saves the entire momentum during the attack. In addition, “Vityaz NSN” has a relatively low weight, which will not burden an agent on a secret mission.

In service: GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate), FSB
The prototype of this knife was used even during the Second World War. There are several variations of this model at the moment. "Smersh-5" differs from other knives in the fact that it has two-sided guard providing reliability during any gripping.
