A Witch in My Garden: "Ladybugs to the Attack! - Queilomenes sexmaculata"

in #photography5 years ago
A few months ago my aunt gave me some seeds of the globe plant, which is a family of cotton balls, this in addition to giving their typical balloons and for which it receives this name, give some beautiful flowers, and these no longer delay in coming out, because you can see some buds that glimpse what will be their beautiful flowers; However, since last month I have been struggling with a plague of aphids that attack the cotton ball plants, without success at all.

But Mother Nature, who is so perfect, conspires in my favor and has sent me some beautiful ladybugs Queilomenes sexmaculata, which are a natural predator of this type of aphids, these tiny insects no less than 4 millimeters in size, and which I have always loved, have this week bet on the delicate cotton plants, devouring these annoying aphids.

Looking for information in my beloved San Google, the angel Wikipedia, told me textually, that these ladybugs, also known as zig zag ladybugs.
They originate from the Asian tropics, and were introduced in the Caribbean islands as biocontrol agents and their propagation in South America was observed in 2019.

So, it is a privilege for me to have them in my courtyard and above all to receive their help, besides I love their beautiful colors, and the brightness that their tiny wings have. I have seen at least 4 of these ladybugs in the plants, and I hope to see some more, as they would feast with the amount of aphids that I have in the garden hahaha.

Detailing some of the specimens that we have in the garden, I believe that at least 1 of them is a female, because they have in their heads clear yellow paint, and the rest of those that I have seen do not have these spots. If so, we may start to have more of these at home, although thinking about it, I hope that after this do not become a plague, which I have not read anything similar on any website. In the meantime I will enjoy the tenderness that these tiny insects give me, even if they are predators.

Nature is Perfect, so perfect that we only have to help her to help us!

    A strong ladybug

Love the lady bugs they are so helpful in a garden, you have some amazing photography @fmbs25. Note to remember these bugs can punch a bite, well where I live they do, quite a surprise for their dainty little size!

Great to hear you've made some new friends in the garden with the lady bugs (we call them lady birds in the UK) there! They will help you out with the aphid problem for sure. They're quite pretty as well with the red and black stripes, good knowledge Wikipedia 😁

    They are beautiful @fmbs25

Interesting history too. It's kind of cool with creatures are used to control the balance of nature.

This is so true. Man thinks far too highly of himself, and too poorly of his home planet.
I love knowing about this ladybug, it is so very well named too.
