Hungry great crested grebe eating some fish

I know I already showed you some pictures of the same day some time ago, but I really like to think back to this day when I really had the luck to take some pictures of these birds fishing and also mating. You can find these waterbirds at the Danube and in the wetlands of the Danube river here in Linz. For building their nests they are looking for places where the water stream is very slow or not present at all, so they can easily fish and feed their offspring.

Birds that can be found near the water or on ponds or rivers are most of the time a bit easier to take pictures of. Because you can find the spots where they live and hunt much easier that from other birds. On this day I just had to wait several hours for some action. The birds started to fish in the pond, and I was lucky to find them swimming around very close to the shore.
