Bwphotocontest: Kogi kid deep in Sierra Nevada jungle

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Hey guys, I wanted to share this photo I took last year in Colombia.

Kogi indigenous kid

She was very, very curious about my camera...

While hiking in the Sierra Nevada around Santa Marta, I crossed path with the Kogi people, an indigenous ethnic group. The Kogi are descendants of the Tairona culture, which flourished before the times of the Spanish conquest. The Tairona were an advanced civilization which built many stone structures and pathways in the jungles. If you hike to the Lost City ("Ciudad Perdida") you may encounter them. Absolutely breathtaking and a must see while in Colombia.

Great shot and interesting culture! Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting culture. I would suggest you to read this article to learn more about them. https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/colombia-kogi-environment-destruction

Thanks for that! I should probably see this Aluna film they mention there. Sounds intriguing...

That was an interesting story bit. The curiosity of children always amazes, as it is somehow greater and more innocent than adults. How were the people as a whole?

Thanks @iggyg85! Overall they were very friendly, but you saw a clear distinction between the kids and the elderly: the kids were extremely curious and wanted to see the camera and played around, while the elderly were mostly hidden from plain sight :)

How interesting.

I like this! Traveling is awesome, and interacting with other cultures is priceless. It helps to renew a sense of appreciation and gratefulness for life's natural abundance.

Good work. More like this!
