How to Shoot a Time Lapse Airport

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

This video was made using my Sony PXW-FS5 Digital Cinema Camera. I shot this from a tower at Aviation Discovery Park in Pensacola FL. I set up the camera to shoot 4 frames per second. And I set the frame rate to it's lowest setting of 4. This allows for streaks to occur and keeps the time lapse from looking choppy.

Using all manual controls I set up the aperture to 5.6.

Even though Pensacola is a rather small airport and not very busy, there was enough activity to feel satisfied with. Would love to shoot a time lapse of a busy airport like Atlanta.

The Sony PXW-FS5 is an excellent digital cinema camera. While it is not a full fledge movie making camera one would need for a feature length film, it is very capable. I've used it for short films, commercials, and events. The Super 35 CMOS chip is excellent for getting nice cinematic images. And it's big brother the PXW-FS7 is on the Showtime list of cameras they accept for shooting original films with. And, as the PXW-FS5 has the same chip as the FS7, it makes an excellent camera to have for the creative professional.

Many cameras have a time lapse feature. GoPro camera for instance do this very well. Research your camera manual and see if you can create a time lapse of your own to share.
