Guidelines & Suggestions For Sharing Photos On Steemit

in #photography6 years ago

Photography is awesome, we all know it! I have experienced and witnessed some things on Steemit with regards to people sharing photos and I wanted to make some comments to hopefully help you all out and improve the quality of your posts and the overall quality of the content here on Steemit.

So often, I see people take one photo and share it with nothing more than a comment saying "A picture is worth 1,000 words", or "here's a photo, enjoy!"

Listen, a lot of people miss the point of this site. This is a BLOG site! If you want to view your posts on your profile, you select "Blog". This is NOT a photo sharing site alone. Photos are great and we all love them in our blog posts, but only sharing a photo with no other commentary around it is just a desperate plea for content. I see this so often, and hopefully I can provide some helpful suggestions to help you and all of your readers/followers.

Let's start with some basics....

ELABORATE!! Share some stuff! Don't be lazy! It's so easy to google a cool image and copy the image address and post it. Seriously, like if all you are doing is Googling a photo and sharing it with nothing else, that takes like 10 seconds. None of the top posts on Steemit are only a picture shared from a search that isn't the authors, so let this be a *hint, hint.

If you find an awesome photo online that you want to share, that's great; please elaborate on why you are actually sharing it. Does it make you think of a memory or a special event from your life? What does it make you feel? What are things you are going through?

Someone commented about a picture being worth a 1,000 words and I commented to them about writing content and making their post be worth 2,000 words!! Seriously though....elaborate, share, comment!! It's way more intriguing to look at something that has a little bit of content associated with it. Understand what's artistic about your photo and the reason you are sharing.

Also, "Here's a nice photo, enjoy" is NOT content. Again, we can all Google nice images. Why are you sharing (other than having nothing else to post to try to get curation)?

Unless you're a huge well-known photographer or painter, no one wants to see only one image that you took from online unless there's justification or some thought connected to it. This concept applies to sharing news stories online too...don't only share a link to a story unless you're providing your thoughts about the article.

Share multiple photos!! If you just got back from a trip, you surely have more than one photo. Share them all and tell the story! If there's one specific image from your trip, see the guidelines above!

We all love looking at pictures and picture books, so let your blog post be more of a story with your photos!!

Even if your photos aren't great artistic quality, it's still nice to see a collection of them and what you've been shooting.

I've seen some great looking food posted and shared here on Steemit. What I usually lack is a description of the food, or the occasion for making whatever you're posting. It'd be awesome if you shared some details about your food photos (or again, multiple shots to tell the story). Share a recipe maybe? Again, content here gets rewarded!

I LOVE photography! I've been into it since I was a kid. I took it in High School and used the dark room to process and develop my own photos. I really appreciate great art. Once again though, please note that this is a blog site and is NOT Instagram. Please, please share and elaborate on your photos! Tell your story! Share your thoughts!!

Hopefully my thoughts have given you all some things to consider to improve the quality of your posts and hopefully accumulate the curation rewards you're trying to get!!

Looking forward to seeing all your photos and stories!!

Yes! Im also often anoyed of just picture posts that clearly didnt involve andy effort or willingnes to put energy in it! The same holds for copy/pasting articles. Usually I report those to steemcleaners. But if the blog post contains a reference to the original article there is not much you can do! Really anoying for those who actually put a lot of time and effort into creating good, high quality content.. Thanks for creating more awareness with this post! :)

Yea i mean as long as there is some effort or personal thoughts, opinions, or emotions Im usually ok. Otherwise it’s just pathetic desperation.

So interesting and Helpful post for Learning more

Exxodus I loved this article and this explanation of how to express feelings or sensations, since I have very little time here and attempt to learn from everything I see, really thank you very much for sharing and I will continue working to make the best possible.
