Magical winter view from the Gardos tower
Hey, guys! Well, this is how winter in Serbia looks like!
This is a view from Gardoš Tower in Zemun. It is also known as Millenium Tower or Tower of Sibinjanin Janko.
It was built in 1896 to celebrate a thousand years of Hungarian settlement in the Panonian plain, that's why the name Millenial Tower is probably the most correct.
I live in Belgrade, but I like to take a walk in Zemun whenever I can. I think that Zemun has a special charm, it is smaller than Belgrade, less crowded and somehow peaceful, but you are still close enough to modern and urban Belgrade.
Zemun has so many narrow cobble streets, secret and unexpected paths, so I feel like I am in some other century. Mysterious legends about the tower and other parts of Zemun are always on mind.
This was the first time I climbed the tower. The climbing is an amazing, but a little bit scary experience too because of the narrow and spiral stairs. But, the view is magnificent, you'll agree!
The view from this tower was also in one Coca Cola New Year's commercial.
