Oh Lichen...
There is something about it right? It will just grow out of nowhere wit this beautiful soft colours and intricate textures. And it wont mind bad weather, lack of water, hard rocks.. it's just there. This one grew on a Cork tree bark. They seem to love it.
There are two types here, but I don't know their specific names. Maybe someone would like to show off and trow some Latin in comments ;)
And even though they are so small, they help animals survive harsh winters. This is what reindeer would eat when everything else is covered in snow. I heard that people can eat it too... not sure of what type so do not try it at home ;)

The edible species of lichen is:
Umbilicaria mullenbergii
Yet are also edible species.
In Russia (and not only) during the war, edible lichen species helped people survive.
I don't think I have see Umbilicaria muhlenbergii around... almost looks like some sea algae...
I thought those green ones are edible too :) Better not try it myself.
Let others try it, ha-ha-ha!

I can't get all latin-sounding on you, except to say that the flat one is a foliar lichen and the branched one is a fructicose type ;)
