Try As I Might

I had an idea, I tried it, and it didn't quite work out, but here are some shots anyway. I wanted to utilise the narrow window when the setting sun shines from the end of my balcony, low enough to reach the opposite wall, but still slightly above the apartment building next to one I live in. I wanted to take pretty raw images where I would be posing against the grey wall, with a stack of boxes under me, covered in a blanked.

Along with annoying little things like the phone (aka. remote) disconnecting from the camera all the time, the main problem was shadows. There was the big shadow from a structural pillar, and the moose antlers which I can't take down, then of course the camera had to be positioned in such away that it didn't leave an awkward shadow. If the shadow is in a flat surface, it's not too hard to work with, but if it was on me, that would be harder to remove. I was hoping that the sun would get a big higher on the wall, but before it could do so, clouds came rolling in. It wouldn't have probably worked anyways because of the antlers.

I really want to use this end of the balcony as kind of a natural light studio, I'm even thinking of getting a really long light coloured curtain that I could hang up there and use as a backdrop. I think it could work earlier in the day and at a time when the sun is lower down, shining from the side. I could even put up really light curtains on the side that would filter the harsh sunlight.

I like this idea. I can see how you were frustrated with it. It works... almost. Try it again! : ) What if you stood up and were mostly in shadows?

I tried that but it did not work. Though I didn't try it against "clean" background.

I watched Breathless again the other night and there are some scenes of Jean Seberg right at the end of the movie where her face is totally in shadow. The background was lighter though. I thought of that when i saw your shots.

The 3rd works with the pillar fine. Moose antlers- yes please!
Ha

Great photos @eveuncovered and this black and white background gives you a special chic!

Great photo study
