Magic mini sculptures. Part 2

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Bronze figures (up to 30 cm), installed in different parts of Uzhgorod.

In the previous post "Magic mini sculptures" I already told about Prince Laborets, the Transcarpathian robber Mykola Shugai, about the famous Hungarian composer and pianist Béla Bartók, about the outstanding composer and co-founder of the famous band Deep Purple John Douglas "Jon" Lord.

I will continue the story about interesting works of sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko and blacksmith Vasil Kryvanich.

      5.  Rubik's Cube. Who didn’t tried to solve the puzzle? In the early 80's it was a boom.

It can't be called a miniature, because the cube is made in real size and is located on the "consular staircase".

The opening of the monument (December 2014) was timed to the fortieth anniversary of the invention of the Rubik's cube (1974)

Let's move on to the sculptures associated with American celebrities.

      6.  Andy Warhol was a artist, writer, designer, collector, publisher of magazines, producer and film director, representative of pop art and concept movement

He was born in Pittsburgh in the family of emigrates Rusyn  from the north-east of present-day Slovakia (earlier the territory of Austria-Hungary). A real name at the birth of Andrew Warhola.

The monument was opened in December 2014 at the gate at the entrance of the Art Museum.

     7. Michael Strank was sergeant of the US Marine Corps. He is best known for being one of the six flag-raisers who helped raise the second U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi on February 23, 1945 as shown in the iconic photograph Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima. (Wikipedia)

Michael Strank was an emigrant. He was born in the family of Rusyns in the village of Jarabina, Czechoslovakia (now north-eastern Slovakia) in 1919.  He emigrated to the United States at the age of two with his mother (father was already there). The Slovak version of the name at birth was Michal Strenk.

The monument was opened in February 2015 at the entrance to the school with in-depth study of the Slovak language (in the people "Slovak School").

To be continued...
