Hairy Woodpecker (Original Photo)

in #photography7 years ago

This female Hairy Woodpecker has been a regular at my peanut feeder this spring. When she is on the feeder no other birds are allowed on the feeder. She is very aggressive in shooing away other birds while feeding on peanuts.

This photograph was taken on 29 May 2017 in eastern Nebraska.

That's a great shot showing how a Hairy Woodpecker has such a long and stout bill. Much bigger than the Downy Woodpecker. It sounds like your Hairy is a pretty bold bird to keep all the others off the feeder! Have your juncos left for good?

The juncos have all left the area. When I see them again, I know cold weather will be here soon. All the warm weather birds are here now.

Have a great weekend!

Mike
