The colours of the prarie
I find that the Albertan prarie has a different colour scheme than I´m used to from northern Sweden. The seasons and temperatures are quite similar - though no midnight sun since we are much further south.
I took these pictures of the vilolets and this orange sunflower in late august as the sun was coming up.
This old milkbarn reminds me of the old small barns at home, the build is different but it something about its size that speaks to me. This was a couple of days later, the last day of August and the sun has wandered a bit higher in the sky. But the smoke from the fires in BC had traveled here muting the light.
I harvested some physalis, it was about 45 min later than the previous picture so the sun is higher in the sky but the light is still muted from the smoke
A couple of days later the smoke still lingers and make 2:30 look like this.
October and bow season. We knew there were a flock of prarie chickens around but failed to see them until we were right on top of them. They saw us :P Somehow the sky feels wider here on the prarie. I quite liked the muted yellows of the fields and patches of tall gras growing around the darkbrown naked trees.
Even though a lot of the plant life is similar to what Im used to, there are slight variations and it brings a new spectrum of colours. I love this one - it felt like I was standing in a field of clouds.
November and a bit of snow. I was out gathering materials for a winter wreath and as I looked up I just stood there for a while watching the colours change.
Even more snow a couple of days later. The blue sky and sunshine made it impossible to stay inside.
This sunset in december caught my attention, all the colours where spectacular :)
Early January and the light is starting to return. The muted yellow colours have faded to a even brighter almost white tinted yellow, I quite like the combination with the snow.
End of January and it got a lot colder, we had around - 30 for two weeks or so. I love the contrast of the white on the black trees. Im particularly fond of these trees, they stand in our backyard and in some lights it almost looks like they are dancing.
All photos are taken with my cellphone - Blackberry priv
