Travel Report from TURIN ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น- the story of the Royal SAVOY Family and the destiny of a city. ๐Ÿ’Ž

๐ŸŒฟHi Steemians๐ŸŒฟ

We are currently in Torino - a city in the North of Italy, close to the Alps. In fact, you can see the Alps from the very city center. We would like to show you some fascinating corners of the city - reaching from architecture, to literature and art.

Today we unfortunately have to survive without the drone. I actually think it is a pretty save technology - but flying it in the full city square of Torino is probably a little bit more risky than flying it in an abandoned village in the Alps. So we are just wondering around with our Canon 5D Mark iii.

Turin is a true cultural and economic centre in Northern Italy. The first thing you will discover travelling to Turin is are Residences of the Royal House of Savoy. You have probably heard the name from the luxurious hotels that you can find all over the world - but it's actually the name of a cultural region in Western Europe around the Alps - reaching from Lake Geneva to Dauphinรฉ.

The house of Savoy is an ancient royal family and led the unification of Italy in 1861. The family ruled the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 until the end of World War II - some people claim that the unification of Italy was actually a conquest of Italy by the Piedmontese. But Italians are not resentful and the situation was about to change quickly.

One year after the end of the second World War, the monarchy in Italy was abolished and a republic was established. As a consequence, all members of the House of Savoy were required to leave the country. Only their magnificent residency in Torino stayed and we can walk through it in marvel. Unfortunately the beautiful garden was still closed - but in spring - this place will be a firework of flowers and colours.

One thing I really enjoy about the people in Torino is their light hearted respect for their glorious past. They make use of their grand statues and building by dancing on top of them or jump down from them on the skateboard. It makes it so much more lively and more pleasant than having to only look at it from a distance.

The entire city breathes culture. Underneath the Portici (sort of long arcades you can walk underneath) you will find endless bookstands that Alessandro was glued to for an hour. People are chatting and laughing - all at 0ยฐC - Turin is pretty frost in the winter and whilst I'm writing this, it starts snowing.

We met these magnificent ladies and asked them to take a picture of them. Every day they go out for a walk with their dogs together and have a cafรฉ. One of the dogs was recently attacked by a pit bull and had to wear this funny outfit.
Don't worry, both dogs are fine!

At this moment in our day, I already became incredibly hungry and Alessandro announced loudly that he knew the perfect place to eat. He didn't mention that it would take almost 20min to walk there. However, on the way, we found some beautiful, unexpected corners of the city.

On the way to the magical food place, we decided that we wanted to watch a movie tonight and chose The Shape Of Water - a guy from a little mountain village had recommended this film to Ale - and I hope he will write a proper critique of the film here on #steemit because there is a lot to say about it.

We finally found the magic food place - and it was actually magic. They served some sort of waffle called Gofrie with prosciutto, rucola and cheese - a delicious soft cheese that I had never tasted before.

Thank you for joining us on our trip to Turin. Tomorrow we will tell you about the Museum of Cinema - definitely one of the best museums we have ever been to. And the story of its building is hilarious.
So, stay tuned and steem on! With all your might!

Yours,

Wonderful creative photography and a great report. Italy is one place I need to visit. I'm fascinated with the history of Europe and the changes in the power structure. And I once visited the Savoy Hotel in London. I never thought about how it got its name.

Yes, @natubat , the savoy hotel in London is really famous - not at least for the reason that it's the only street in the U.K. ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง where you're allowed to drive on the right side - just in order to get out on the correct side of the street and walk straight into the Savoy hotel.

Yes - it comes from this old Italian family. I hope you're doing great!!!

Best wishes
Elena

Another thing I never knew - even though I lived in London for 8 years! Amazing.

Hehe, I only stumbled over this because I was researching for a film. haha :-)

It's amazing the things you stumble across when doing research though. I know, because I've done a lot of research for various things! You can find nuggets of gold :)

Are you a researcher? As a profession?

No - I used to be a magazine journalist and editor, and that involved a lot of research. I've often found really interesting things just by fact-checking. I now prefer to be self-employed by choice, and I've made a few YouTubes, including a couple of short documentaries - and again, when you're double-checking information you've read or heard about, sometimes that's when you find the most interesting and unexpected
material.

So you're also a fellow filmmaker! Brilliant! I absolutely know this experience and thrill of discovery.

Above all when your own knowledge get shaken up!

Do you plan to make a new film soon?

xx
@elenahornfilm
