Stranded in Serbia. Roughing it out in Belgrade
Sheltering under layers of UNHCR blankets a group of Afghan and Pakistani asylum seekers sleep in a disused building.
Walking into the disused building, the first thing that becomes apparent is the pungent smell of urine. The people living in the building have no toilet facilities so are forced to relieve themselves into a lowered section on the ground floor. Stacks of rubbish attract rats into the building and with the broken windows, wind whirls around as the people sleep. Many of the refugees and migrants fear being sent to a ‘closed camp’ while their asylum application is processed, so they chose not to register and survive as best they can on the streets.

The stories that asylum seekers reside have been similar all over the world. The person hurts in the soul when you see, under what circumstances they live, if you can even recall life. You simply turn around and it's no longer a problem. There's some kind of humanity in us.
It may happen that tomorrow we will be in their place :-(

Thank you Postar. The conditions they are living in is truly terrible and likely to worsen as time goes on. The Balkan route has largely been forgotten and the people stuck just left to suffer in an asylum limbo
