My thoughts on the etiquette of posting photographs, including the commentary

Granted, a picture is worth a thousand words, so says an English idiom, meaning that

  1. A complex idea can be conveyed with only a single still image
  2. An image of a subject conveys its meaning or essence more effectively than a description. Wikipedia

But should that justify the custom of many a steemit user who post under the tag of photography, to simply post a photo with none, and at most a two-letter description?

The majority of such photos often only gather: ‘nice picture’, ‘beautiful photo’, ‘thanks for sharing’ kind of comments.

This begs just two questions”

  1. Should photos be described a little more to give viewers a catalyst for imagination?
  2. Is it that those commenting have little/no imagination/ are too lazy to seek for that essence/meaning of the photos?

Well you are right... Many of the photos mostly get too short comments... The answer to both of your Questions is Yes...

I share your thought @itwithsm. Simply posting a photo is not enough, i am convinced. Personally, i love imagination, and whereas i abhor such short, comments, this days classed by reputable steemit members, as spam, i think that authors need to yes do more, offer a little description.

Otherwise, i don't see how posting a photo of a sky with no description is supposed to inspire any kind of discussion.

Given that Steemit today takes concern with short comments, and classifies them as spam comments, is it too far-fetched to suggest that these too be classed as spam posts?

yeah u are right... I do type some description in my posts about pictures.... It takes a little more time but the post becomes more interesting and eye catching... And worth of some discussion...
