NASA released these images of a smiling sun on Friday. Published by the Solar Dynamics Observatory scientists say the "eyes" are probably active sun regions and it's mouth may be a solar filament. The dark spots we can see to the sides are coronal holes. According to NASA Coronal holes are associated with 'open' magnetic fields and can be found at the sun's poles. The Solar Dynamics Observatory is part of the NASA Living With a Star (LWS) Program, which was devised to understand causes of solar variability and the impact it has on our world. Today we are happy to see the sun smiling down at us.
Reminds me a little bit of the Kool-Aid man from the 80's.
