I once kept a gerbil in an aquarium I had half-filled with damp sand and then let dry. The gerbil made tunnels. It was the happiest gerbil I ever had.
That sounds amazing! My gerbils used to build underground tunnel systems in the litter, it was amazing to watch through the aquariums glass walls
