On the fifth day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Five Golden Rings
Four Calling Birds
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree
Look close. There are five “golden” rings on the ornaments. Yesterday I told you that it was my favorite of the verses. I like the pause on Gol-den and it seems to me that we always sang that part the loudest!
“Five Golden Rings” represents the first five books of the Bible, also called the Jewish Torah: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
There are so many different versions as to the “truth” behind the song. Here is one of them: Catholics in England during the period 1558 to 1829 were prohibited by law to practice their faith either in public or private. It was illegal to be Catholic until Parliament finally emancipated Catholics in England in 1829."The Twelve Days of Christmas" was written in England as one of the "catechism songs" to help young Catholics learn the basics of their faith. In short, it was a coded-message, a memory aid. Since the song sounded like rhyming nonsense, young Catholics could sing the song without fear of imprisonment. The authorities would not know that it was a religious song."The 12 Days of Christmas" is in a sense an allegory. Each of the items in the song represents something significant to the teachings of the Catholic faith. The hidden meaning of each gift was designed to help Catholic children learn their faith. The better-acquainted one is with the Bible, the more these interpretations have significance. source
Can you hear it? It’s almost that time of year again. I can feel it coming on. How many of you are ready to be one of the roughly 60% of people that impose a New Year Resolution? Only 8% of you will actually push through and complete it. I stopped making them, long ago and far away, although I am told that making them is a great idea and actually pegs the happiness meter.
For me, I found that change should be implemented when I think of it instead of postponing the date, waiting for the New Year to begin. There is no time like the present – but that is for me. I find inch by inch, I can move towards a bigger goal, much easier to implement into my life. Those small annoying issues, I heard they were called the Pigeons of Discontent. Of course, that made me laugh. I loved that term. So, tell me, tell me, tell me do… What does it for you? Resolutions or not? Tell me true.

Never was one for using the new year as a reason to change, but if it helps some, all the better.
I don't make New Year's resolutions. Well, I already said why in the text. I suppose if I thought it would do something, why not start that day, instead of waiting until New Year's Eve?
But , I guess it could be fun for some people. Who am I to buck tradition?
