5 Must-See Places in Taiwan (Outside of Taipei)

Hualien

Hualien is home to Taroko National Park, as well as many other natural gems. This is an awesome city for hiking and exploring. Accommodation is cheap and it's quite easy to rent a scooter.

Taitung

While there is no national park here, Taitung has no shortage of awesome stuff to see. As you ride down the coastal highway here you'll find pristine blue waters on one side, and gorgeous mountains on the other.

Sandiaoling Waterfall Trail

Where else can you find 3 great waterfalls in one place? Well, I'm sure it's possible, but rare. This trail just outside of Taipei is quite an adventure.

Jiufen

This place is quite famous for it's old street and features in a Japanese movie. It's an old mining town that was used during the Japanese rule of Taiwan. Other than the city, there are cool hiking trails to be explored all around this place.

Pingxi Crags

Everybody raves about the Pingxi Crags. Locals will claim they're worth multiple visits. Not only are the views from the top nice, but these things are just a thrill to climb. Scary, but thrilling.



There are plenty more places I could add to this list, but there are 5 to get anyone started or inspired who is wishing to explore Taiwan outside of Taipei.
