Ride With Me Down The Stunning Oregon Coast Line

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Our very first glimpse of the Northwestern shores was on a bright sunny morning. We had stayed overnight in a hotel in Northern California so we would be fresh for our trip up 101 North, an excellent decision if I do say so.

This was the view from the deck of the Welcome Center. Needless to say it took our breath away, lending a renewed excitement to the drive!

All along the highway there are places to pull off. However, as I told @ericvancewalton, if you're making plans to drive this route I would recommend going North to South as there were many overlooks that were difficult to get to from the other side.

Still we managed to see our share!

The entire way we were on the lookout for marine life...

...and we were not disappointed! This guy appeared to be scratching himself on the giant rock.

While on the next rock over his family was a mix of sleepies and yippies (you could hear their sealish barking over the sound of the waves- we knew they were there before we saw them)

As I look through these again I am truly struck by the fact that until this past summer I had only ever seen vistas like this through magazines and television.

It always seemed so exotic, and standing by the real thing didn't change that feeling.

Chilling by himself :0)

Up most of the East Coast ocean beaches mean miles and miles of sand, which has it's own charm of course, but for me it was a particular thrill for the wild waters to be surrounded by woods and forest.

Though for me it's the rocks that truly makes this place along the Atlantic stand out.

Heading to the coastal town of Newport, see you there in the next travel post!

Gorgeous! You get some of the long sandy beaches here, but a lot are more like your photos.

As if I needed any more reasons to find my way to you! One day I'll redefine snow bird, not winters in Florida, winters (summers) in New Zealand woot ;0)

Yes there may be the odd resemblance!

I will sit on one of those rocks one day....have you take my picture ;)

That is down south on the west coast

This is near us - I walked down there yesterday

Looking forward to that day :-)

I was on 101 many years ago when I was a kid, but I don't remember much about it. I think there were very large trees involved. Don't recall any seals. Sweet pics though!

Amazing photos, @dreemit! I'm so thankful you shared that advice about the road trip. This post is like a glimpse of the future for me. Safe travels and hope you all have fun!

Thank you @ericvancewalton! I enjoyed documenting the trip almost as much as the trip itself which was just incredible ;)

That coast looks fantastic! Crashing waves is up there in my list of favorite sounds, so having this sight coupled with that ambiance must have been a treat! Oh, and that last shot... muy bien!

It's definitely one of my favorite sounds, probably second only to strong wind through the trees :) It really was.

Why thank you mon amie!

This makes me want a camper van and a dog that isn't scared of the dark.

I WILL have a camper van one day :) He's's afraid of the dark? That's an unusual one. Lucy is afraid of loud noises- fireworks, gunshots, thunder... marching bands lol!
I did mention that you're writing inspires- I ended up writing all night, a jump start I really needed, but now I am exhausted and just trying to make it to a reasonable time before I hit the pillow

That looks magic. I love the seals!!

It was magic, and me too! I think I might have seen them at a zoo when I was a kid, but never in their natural habitat :)

You get the here, I saw one in the river that runs through this city! Although they are lusually coastal

That was really fun to scroll and enjoy this post all the way till the down :D
