Bikes of Burden - RECYCLING EDITION - Day #42 (English/German)

Hello fellow Steemians !

Welcome to another edition of my original "Bikes of Burden" Collection. Today, I chose a topic which is not only fun to look at, but also fascinating and important. Today we are talking about "Recycling" in Vietnam. Maybe it sounds a bit strange in the beginning but in my blog I will show you that it is an essential part of the working environment in Vietnam. However is is not comparable in any way with Western Style Recycling.

Oil Drums + Bicycle

Amazing how this guy is able to carry 3 oil drums on a little scooter. And to make things even more interesting, he just attached a bicycle to it. These drums are brought to a metal yards and can be sold by weight.

Styrofoam

Unfortunately, Styrofoam is a very common product in Vietnam to carry around goods that need to be cooled. That also means, that there is a lot of Styrofoam which can not be used anymore. Luckily, some people collect it and use it for something. Because this material is so light, you can see huge transports of Styrofoam as you can see in the picture. As long as they are held together, everything is fine.

Cardboard

Cardboard is one of the favorite Collectibles because you can easily sell it. People are actually waiting in front of houses, if they see a family moving in or out to collect paper boxes and card board. SO you don't even have to worry about recycling because there a people who are glad to do it for you to earn their daily money.

Plastic Bottles

Plastic Bottles are also seen everywhere. Luckily, this is also a highly praised item because Recycling money is not bad if you have enough bottles on your scooter. It seems, Vietnamese people are very aware of "Economy of Scale". I just love the look of 500 Bottles strapped together.... you wonder how they do it !!!

Scrap Metal

Scrap metal is another good recycling material because it is measured by weight and can get a good price. However, there are two things that are really annoying. First, it can be dangerous because metal on a motorbike, as you can see on the picture, can be very dangerous. Secondly, people are actually steeling manhole covers and if you are not careful, you might end up in the sewage canal. So be careful on Vietnam's roads.

Rubber

Rubber is another good recycling material. As you can see in the picture, size does matter ! Vietnam is actually importing old rubber tires from Japan and Korea to recycle them in Vietnam.

Last but not least, i present to you another "blind trust" picture. The question remains: Is there a driver or not? ;-)
