We haven't cuckoos in New England either and whenever I make it back to the UK I can't wait to seek them out. That sound just gets into the pit of my stomach and soothes me in an odd way. Like a remembered fairy tale life of a parallel me or something. I get the same feeling when I hear the mourning doves here back in New England.
