a few impressions of Amsterdam - Ein paar Eindrücke aus Amsterdam

Everyone who has already been to Amsterdam knows that this city has an incomparable charm. It feels a little bit like you are in a different world. On the one hand the people are calm and friendly in themselves, but if you look at the streets, it seems like the residents of Amsterdam are plagued by stress all day. What also seems veery unusual at first sight is that there are far more cyclists than car drivers on road. If you look closer, you will notice that the city is constructed accordingly. That means there are not only thousands of cyclists but there are also countless bike paths. Who wonders if there are so many cars that torture themselves through the streets?

Wer schon einmal in Amsterdam war, weiß, dass die Stadt einfach einen unvergleichlichen Charme hat. Es fühlt sich ein bisschen an wie in einer anderen Welt. Einerseits sind die Leute an sich ruhig und freundlich, doch sieht man auf die Straßen, kommt es einem vor, die Amsterdamer sind den ganzen Tag vom Stress geplagt. Was auf den ersten Blick auch sehr ungewöhnlich erscheint, ist, dass bei Weitem mehr Radfahrer unterwegs sind als Autos. Wenn man näher hinsieht, fällt einem aber auf, dass die Stadt auch dementsprechend aufgebaut ist. Das heißt, es gibt nicht nur tausende Radfahrer, sondern auch unzählige Radfahrwege. Wen wundert es, bei den vielen Autos, die sich langsam durch die Straßen quälen?

There are people all over the place no matter where you go. Be it that you visit one of the countless museums (really worth a visit) or that the street markets enthrall you. Everywhere are hundreds of people.

Es wimmelt nur so von Leuten, egal wo man hingeht. Sei es, dass man eines der vielzähligen Musseen besucht (wirklich sehenswert!) oder dass die Straßenmärkte einen in ihren Bann ziehen, überall hunderte von Menschen.

But not only during the day it is busy, Amsterdam also has a lively nightlife. hundreds of bars, pubs and clubs are offered to you. Additional there are trips on party boats, pub crawls and lot of other opportunities.

Aber nicht nur am Tag geht es rund, Amsterdam hat auch ein reges Nachtleben. Hunderte von Bars, Lokalen und Clubs werden einem geboten, dazu noch Fahrten auf Partybooten, Kneipentouren und vieles mehr.

What surely contributes a lot to that the people feel comfortable here is the combination between city and nature. On the one hand there are so many trees and plants, green areas and parks. They make Amsterdam not only beautiful to view but they also make the people give the people such a joy so that they really leave their houses with pleasure and enjoy the life in Amsterdam. On the other hand, it is the water channels that run through Amsterdam. They bring so much life into the city and that also makes Amsterdam unique. Countless streets are pervaded by these water channels. Everywhere in Amsterdam life is connected with the water. Like a ring system the city is run through by these channels, hundreds of bridges allow the pedestrians, the cyclists, the cars and the public transport the crossing. There are so many boats you can't even count them. Everywhere there are landing stages where they dock and where the people can hop on and hop off. Also a variety of bars and pubs is located next to the water, some can only be reached over bridges. Alone this combination of water and land contributes a lot to the beautiful architecture and to the great life here.

Was sicher einiges dazu beiträgt, damit sich die Leute hier wohlfühlen, ist die Kombination zwischen Stadt und Natur. Zum einen sind es die vielen Bäume und Pflanzen, die Grünflächen und Parks. Sie machen Amsterdam nicht nur wunderschön anzusehen, sondern machen den Leuten solch eine Freude, so dass sie wirklich gerne hinausgehen und das Leben in Amsterdam genießen. Zum anderen sind es die Kanäle, die Amsterdam durchziehen. Sie bringen so viel Leben in die Stadt, und auch das macht Amsterdam unvergleichlich. Unzählige Gassen sind von diesen Kanälen durchzogen, überall in Amsterdam steht das Leben in Verbindung mit dem Wasser. Wie ein Ringsystem ist die Stadt von den Bächen durchzogen, hunderte Brücken ermöglichen den Fußgängern, Radfahrern, Autos und öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln das Überqueren. Boote gibt es so viele, man kann sie gar nicht alle zählen. Überall sind Stege, an denen sie anlegen und an denen die Leute ein- und aussteigen können. Auch eine Vielzahl an Lokalen und Bars liegen am Wasser, einige sind nur über Brücken erreichbar. Allein dieses Spiel zwischen Wasser und Land trägt schon einen großen Teil zur wunderschönen Architektur und zum großartigen Leben hier bei.

Amsterdam is ahead of many other cities, even ahead of world cities, when it comes to internationality. Here you meet everybody, no matter what nationality or what living conditions. People from all over the world live here and they don't have to fear rassism or social exclusion. Everyone is welcome here and everyone has all opportunities. That is one of the reasons why life in Amsterdam is so versatile. There are hundreds of opportunities and the citizens treat each other with respect. Something like this is often hard to find somewhere else. Maybe because of that a few million tourists come here every year. And maybe because of that about 100 000 people moved here in the last 15 years.

Amsterdam ist vielen anderen Städten, sogar manchen Weltstädten weit voraus, was die Internationalität betrifft. Hier trifft man einfach jeden, ganz unabhängig von der Herkunft und den Lebensumständen. Menschen aus aller Welt wohnen hier, und das ganz ohne Ausgrenzung und Rassismus. Jeder ist hier willkommen, und jedem stehen alle Türen offen. Das ist einer der Gründe, warum das Leben in Amsterdam so vielfältig ist. Es gibt hunderte von Möglichkeiten und die Bewohner behandeln einander mit Respekt. So etwas ist anderswo oft schwer zu finden. Vielleicht zieht es deshalb jährlich einige Millionen Besucher hierher, und vielleicht ist das auch der Grund, warum in den letzten 15 Jahren rund 100 000 Menschen hierher gezogen sind.
