Iscorama Anamorphic Lens Prep

in #photography9 years ago (edited)

I’m not going to claim to know the future, but I’ll be damned if shooting with this Iscorama isn’t gonna be fun this weekend! I’ve always wanted to shoot with this lens and I finally get a chance on my FS7 and maybe even a little Canon RAW! IT’S RAWWWWW!! That last one was for Chef Gordon Ramsay.

Anamorphic lenses come in many formats and squeeze the image horizontally in order to create that wide screen effect when unsqueezed during projection or transferred to a computer. The most common image compressions for anamorphics are 1.33x and 2x meaning the image is squeezed 1.33 or 2 times horizontally across the film / sensor plane. This particular lens is a 1.5x, one of the rarer formats, but also ideal for modern, 16:9 sensors.

Big thanks for @vamp for renting me the lens!

I hope that clarifies what this little guy does. More to come after our weekend shoot!

hey dear .. but what if we changed the lens to 35mm ?

On a full frame we'd probably see some vignetting, but on a super-35 sensor, that'd work nicely. I have a 37mm I'm going to try out tomorrow as well.
