Dorcadion arenarium or Longhorn Beetle

Today I want to show you one bug, which I met on yesterday's walk!

Dorcadion arenarium - species of beetles of the barbel family.
Distributed in Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania...

About 400 species are described, which are divided into eight subgenera.

Despite their name, only the larvae of these beetles feed on the roots. Adult insects of this species prefer green foliage.

I liked this insect because it looked like a sunflower seed, as well as sitting quietly and basking in the spring sunshine while I was photographing it.

This colourful macro-video shows how reluctantly the beetle move when attacking a nimble ant. You should see it!
