RE: A large mushroom, which was found in the woods...

The Mushroomer has arrived.

That is a very cool find. Unfortunately, you arrived a little late in the life cycle. Depending on where you are, the exact species will be different, but with the overall shape, and especially the flaky remnants on the cap, and the hint of yellowish pink color, the bulbous bottom of the stem - I think you probably have some kind of Amanita Muscaria or a nearby cousin.

This would be one variation - but the mushroom in this picture has made it to maturity. I'm afraid your little guy didn't make it out the gate - probably got too dry or hot.

If you look under the cap, is there a veil between the edge of the cap and the stem, blocking your view of the gills? It might have deteriorated, but there should be some small remnant of it left.

If you have an interest in fungi and learning how to identify them in a comprehensive way it really is a good hobby. I don't ever eat the mushrooms I find, nor should you, but they can be quite astounding. The Mushroomer can teach you more.
