Cosplay Japan Comiket
If you ever wanted to cosplay in Japan, there are two major opportunities to do so. Comiket and World Cosplay Summit, if you're poor like I am, you'll want to go with the former rather than the latter. There are two major Comiket events in Odaiba at the Tokyo Big Sight, one of them is during August, and the second is December. It's a huge gathering of people who want to expose themselves to the camera's and usually they garner a lot of publicity.
Needless to say, a lot of talent has been discovered in Comiket throughout its history. What started out as a collection of mangaka and fans creating their own books and selling them, eventually became a gathering of people dressing up as those very same characters.
But, don't get me wrong, Comiket is still very much a market, and you'll see tons of people selling books, and or gear for their favorite shows. You see Comiket derives from the words comic and market, thus the abbreviation. It's also a very catchy name~.
If you're ever in the area and love anime/manga this is the place to visit, and during the holidays too!
"Coincidentally" Tona Cosplay happens just around the corner, and while it's a gathering of mostly Japanese it's a great opportunity to take pictures! But, from my experience it's harder to meet foreigners, or even English speakers at this event.
