RE: Graffiti Nostalgia 📷 CCBY4.0 Creative Commons

Love the pics :)

Our biggest cities (and I'm speaking specifically from an nyc perspective here) become green zones for the wealthy, the creativity, charm, individuality, local flavor, sheer uniqueness of the streets is being washed away into a drab, glass/metal/concrete landscape full of corporate stores and financial outlets. It's sad. Badass restaurants close shop because the owners can't afford the rent, but the fucking Chipotles can. Neighborhood vibes change drastically, become homogenized and gentrified in the worst sort of ways. It really sucks, seems like every damn neighborhood in Bklyn is just a carbon copy of the most recent one that gentrified. The murals are not only beautiful but speak volumes of our times, the locale, the people there...they are like little snippets of history tagged all over the place. The anthropologists are crying (or they should at least)

RIP 5 Pointz...used to love gazing at the murals when riding the F through bklyn...Biggie had a huge mural there!

That mural is literally famous in the hip hop community. Amazing how things change. I'm lucky in Cambridge we allow and preserve things like this. I can't imagine a world without these pieces.
