Dragonflies, on the other hand, look tiny, shimmering, and are known as harmless insects. Even dragonflies, along with butterflies and ladybirds, are grouped into a list of the human-liked insects.

However, beneath its "friendly" appearance, the dragonfly turned out to be a very voracious air predator. A recent study conducted by a team of Rutgers University scientists in the United States shows, dragonflies become the most brutal hunters as well as effective in the animal kingdom.

The team noted that the dragonfly captured almost all its prey with a success rate of 95 percent. Even dragonflies often eat their prey while still flying, without the hassle of perching to the leaves or twigs of trees.

Dragonflies will tear the bodies of their prey and continue chewing them until they form a lump before they finally swallow them, "said Michael L. Mei, an emeritus professor of entomology at Rutgers, as quoted by page New York Times, Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
