Harties Aerial Cable Way - A Breathtaking, Bird's-eye, Panoramic view of Hartbeespoort Dam
In 1973 the cable way started off with 26 four seater fiberglass and square tubing gondolas, built by a local manufacturer. Unfortunately, the design could not handle the wind and strong gusts. Further research was done and the cable way was equipped with new technology and gondolas.
The service cage was built from old garden furniture and was used daily for 25 years to carry building material, food and inspection teams up and down the mountain.
In 2010 the Cable way was revamped, using the latest materials and technology. This is a display case with the olden technology used in 1973.
The new Cable way boasts with fourteen hi-tech six seater cable cars. New galvanized cabling are used, and it is engineered according to the Canadian Standards Association Specifications. It is capable of handling 500 people per hour.
At the top you will exit unto a beautiful deck with the most exquisite views, a restaurant and outside bar on the top level and a curio shop on the second.
On the one side of the mountain you will enjoy the breath taking view of the Hartbeespoort (name meaning: Gateway of hartebeest/Antelope) dam and town. Unfortunately, we went on a very hazy day and the photo is not as clear as I would have liked it.
You can enjoy sipping a cocktail, watching a romantic sunset with your loved one. It is right on the edge of the deck with a fantastic panoramic view.
Drop Off and pick up zone looking out on the deck and Harties.
After following a foot path leading right around the mountain, you will reach the highest peak where they have this little takeaway offering the most mouthwatering pizza and burgers.
For a work function or party you can make use of this area to have a braai (barbeque) or potjie (a stew you cook in a black metal pot in between the coals for a few hours).
**You can pack your own pick nick baskets as they have little spots with tables and chairs where you can relax and enjoy your meal. If the walking and ride wasn't enough to get rid of all the young ones energy, they can play on the jungle gym, giving mommy and daddy a break. **
**On your way out you can stop at "the Little Shop At The Top" to purchase some curios like postcards, African jewelry, mugs and clothing. **
You will be able to experience a great variety of Fauna and Flora.
This is an experience the entire family will enjoy!!
All photos were taken with my Samsung S7.

Ai juvyjabian , it is a wonderful experience and I hope that you will one day be able to enjoy it too.
Hopefully mum
This is great!
:D
I've had a fear of heights for a while, but I also like to challenge my fears, so I love seeing stuff like this. That's a nice shop, too.

@shayne
Thank you Shayne. It is not as bad as you think.
I still get freaked out riding lifts like this even though I'm on them every winter for snowboarding lol
Wow, that must be a fantastic experience, a definite for my bucketlist, luxurylife.
Awesome shots! Places like La Paz in Bolivia are starting to use these a means of mass public transport. Very cool.
Thanks, hitheryon. I actually did some research after posting this article and I saw they are opening another lane. So it will have 3 lanes in operation soon which I feel is a super cool way of transport to clear up the streets..
Nicely composed photos. That looks like a nice ride up. Great view!
Thank you very much fotosdenada. I love sharing the wild life, the flora, the beautiful and interesting places of my country, it might help the traveller to explore more than what the general packages offer.
Very nice... my old hangout (but not the cable car) ... looks really well organised, more so than the top of Table Mountain's cable car.
It is not overfloding with tourists like Table Mountain, during the week and early morning you do not have to wait in cues but it can get hectic too over weekends and public holidays.
Hi @crazymumzysa, beautiful photos of a beautiful place, nice article.
Thank you rynow, I am sure you have exquisite places on your side of the world too.
We certainly have.
Quite a nice place. The ride should be spectacular too.
Thank you ace108, the view is absolutely beautiful, especially on clear days. There are some exquisite succulents and wild flowers, eagles soaring the skies, squirrels, lizards and then of course your monkeys.
You're welcome. My monkeys? my cousins, you mean.
You are very sharp ace108, I appreciate your sense of humour. Thanks for the giggle
You're welcome.
