La Bibliotheca Municipal de Ponce.

"The Ponce Municipal Library, formally, Biblioteca Municipal Mariana Suárez de Longo, and also known as Biblioteca Publica de Ponce (English: Ponce Public Library), is the library system of the municipality of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Founded in 1870, it is the oldest public library in Puerto Rico." --- Wikipedia

The library located in this site, the particular building pictured above, was constructed only a few years ago (I was actually present for the inauguration). So Wikipedia is referring to the original which was possibly the library that once was adjacent to El Teatro La Perla (the historical theatre of Ponce).

Sadly, though the new library has very few years since it's actual construction it's in dire need of funds and one of its main building's roof is actually collapsing. All funding cuts to public libraries in the USA, also affects libraries in Puerto Rico. This has also made the huge ambitious local library to lose valuable staff and much needed hours for it's user's. The library has been struggling for some time. Really unfortunate, because it's a true wealth of local information and holds often the curation of many extremely talented artist's works. I am hoping to demonstrate some of these artist's works sometime here on Steemit.
