Who Put the Straw in Strawberries?

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Enjoyed a late Sunday morning outing with friends to pick strawberries at an awesome family-run farm called Butler's Orchard in Germantown, Maryland.

Excerpt from The Old Farmer's Almanac:
WHY ARE STRAWBERRIES CALLED STRAWBERRIES?
Answer: Historians aren’t sure. One theory is that woodland pickers strung them on pieces of straw to carry them to market. Others believe that the surface of the fruit looks as if it’s embedded with bits of straw. Still others think that the name comes from the Old English word meaning to strew, because the plant’s runners stray in all directions and look as if they are strewn on the ground.

You have them already??? I can't wait!! Ontario strawberries are the best and only last for the month of June. We are almost there.

Your strawberries made my mouth water ... lol.

Not too far away from this farm is a horrible flood....are you affected in anyway??

Ontario strawberries are the best and only last for the month of June.

The further north you get, the slower the berries are growing, and the better they will become.

In my home-town of Tromsø, under the midnight sun, the strawberries are ready in late August - usually before the snow comes - and they are definitively the best.

Alpine strawberries are the kind I would grow. I knew living in a cooler climate had its benefits. (Mind you, not so cool anymore - we seem to have lost two of our seasons).

It's name was berry after put them into straw they become strawberries , it's good theory .
Nice photography in strawberry farm

Wow strawberries farming . It's good fruit and you define in good why it's name strawberry .

Well i really don't the mystery behind strawbarry name, but i wanna say it is one of the blessings of GOD you are collecting this blessing.

I just realized I've never once questioned why they are called strawberries lol. We use to have a place like this when I was a kid where you could pick your own. Where I lived those places don't exist here anymore. It's a shame. Looks like a blast. Nothing better than fresh fruit straight from the farm.

It looks like you've enjoyed alot there, and you left me in thoughts how strawberry get this name from these 2 possibilities.
Well I want to say 1 thing here, I've never been in strawberry field but when you took this much images of strawberries in the box, in hand, in the van, in the market, why didn't you captured a picture of strawberries attached to plant.

I love these pictures. What camera and/or editing software are you using? You have a wonderful talent.

Photography is very good.
A very fun job on a holiday with friends in the garden strowberi.
