Found natively within about a 70-mile radius of Wilmington, North Carolina, the Venus Flytrap is a carnivorous plant that grows in the coastal plains wetlands and bog/swamp areas of North and South Carolina.

In 2005 it was designated as the official state carnivorous plant.

These photos of the glass and metal venus flytraps were taken several years ago while on the river walk in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina.

haha -- it's good the real plants aren't that big! And it's funny to think of a state having an official carnivorous plant.
