Melted Shells
While hiking within the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area in Trenton, New Jersey yesterday, my wife and I crested a rise that opened up into a large area that looked to recently be the recipient of a controlled burn.
New spring growth along with quite a few new mushrooms were taking hold.
And while this area had a number of safe-zone, no hunting signs posted, the controlled burn created quite a few melted shotgun shells.

Does this look like poaching evidence or shells from shooting clays?
I was thinking the same thing @jacobtothe. We did see clay shooting in a designated area, but this was in a more secluded section with a high vantage point. And all these shells were right at the edge of a dirt road.
