Foraging Near the Smock Family Burial GroundsteemCreated with Sketch.

On the way back from a short walk yesterday at the Longbridge Annex in Holmdel, New Jersey, I stopped at a small roadside graveyard called the Smock Family Burial Ground.

It's the resting place for some of the early families of Holmdel and the surrounding areas.

Sometime in 2001, the local Boy Scouts cleaned up the grounds and recorded the inscriptions from the grave stones.

It was a cool, but rather dreary day and there were large numbers of Canada Geese foraging behind and next to this burial ground.

Those headstones are in pretty rough shape. Great photo collection!

Good post and photographs. Interesting and informative. Quite intriguing set of stones.

I hope someone has gotten rubbings of some of those headstones before their condition gets even worse. And nice job in calling them "Canada Geese" instead of Canadian Geese, like too many folks do, lol.

Love all the photos. The gravestones are really interesting, with such detail and texture. The masses of geese are so cool too with that background. Such clarity, the Sony looks like it does a nice job.
So humbling too, walking about in a cemetery. Thanks for sharing.
