Their children I would assume
Everyone remembers their first day at school.
I would think if you have moved your focus a little bit to the left, the composition would be greatly improved and the message behind the photo would be stronger. That's my opinion only.
Can you tell us more about the context?
Children left their parents and went into a classroom. After the door closed, parents look at their kids through windows.
