PH: TECHNICAL DRAFTING FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

TECHNICAL DRAFTING I 12.23.2017

I teach Technical Drafting in Canduman National High School from Grade 7 to Grade 10 for four years now. Basically, students are taught how to make technical drawings that is very useful in industries, engineering, and architecture.

In the exploratory years (Grade 7 & 8), students are introduced with the basic knowledge in Technical Drafting. They will know and learn about the Lettering, Tools, Materials and Equipment used in Technical Drafting, Measuring and Scaling, Basic Line Sketching, Alphabet of Lines, Orthographic and Pictorial Drawings. In this level, the goal of study is to know the students inclination in the different areas in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE). So, that by the time they reach Grade 9, they can select the best TLE course best for them.

For Grade 9 Drafting Students, the basic lessons in the lower level will be reviewed to really prepare for the next level in drafting. After that, the students will know and learn about the basics in drafting Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Layouts and Details. Students will also have to produce manual drawings in the mention areas.

For Grade 10 Drafting Students, the students will know first the basic of computer operations before they will be introduced in Computer-Aided Design. In the school, we used AUTODESK - AutoCAD software in performing our plates. After learning the basic commands and operations in CAD, the students will recreate drawings in Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical Layout and Details using AutoCAD. To a more vivid learning experience, I also let my students create a scale model house in the last quarter.

Technical Drafting is difficult, time-consuming, and a boring subject to some. But to us who love it, it is challenging, worthy of our time and a fun-filled subject.
