Pigeon Love

in #photography7 years ago

We humans believe that we are at the top of the scale of evolution and intelligence; we think that the complexity of our minds and our achievements make us unique in nature. We are those that wonder about why we exist. Our study of nature is mainly made for our own good or for the sake of science or just by curiosity but always from the position of an observer. Through our humanly eyes and senses we believe we understand almost everything, we do not really wonder on the capabilities and the “internal” life of nature and its beings.

Try to imagine your life as if it were of a pigeon's. Try to become an alien to our humanly world and view everything through a different perspective. You may feel a different kind of love for the one-in-a-life-time partner you discover and recognize among the crowd of the pigeons in the park. You may feel gratitude when the sun goes up and you will fly with the rest of the flock in the square to have the best view of the sunrise; you may even “pray” to the sun. You may feel anxious when you have to find the best hideout for your nestlings so that they will never be seen by other creatures and especially humans. You may see the world from above while flying in the city and you will recognize the exact routes that lead to the main areas you hang out. You may live a life with no cloths, no material goods no technology but you may have enough for the life your kind needs to live and contribute in nature.

Or you may read on research about the strange behavior of birds and what might give rise to it. I have read in an article the following: “Could a bird whose basic physiology adapts to changing seasons, who can perceive atmospheric infrasound, and see Earth’s magnetic field, have emotional capacities beyond our own? Including, perhaps, forms of love that are not merely analogues of our cherished feelings, but something unique to them?” Studies and observation have led on the signing of the Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness of animals, which normally should change a lot of things in our view of life.

Through creativity and imagination or through scientific evidence we tend to place ourselves in any possible way in nature- masters or insignificants - but we seldom feel as wonders in the wonder of creation.

The video (originally captured during my last visit in my homeland) below shows a pigeon couple, at Chios island central square, “kissing” and expressing tenderness to each other.

The photo shows a couple of pigeons that live in the balcony of a friend's apartment. They are devoted to each other, take care of their mate, fly and rest together.

Take care and live the wonder of Life together with nature!
