Life adventure of a tour guide Battambang, Cambodia party II
Battambang is the second biggest city of Cambodia. Population one million people and 80 pro cents are farmers. In 1999 the tourist started to come to visit battambang.
At that time there were very few tour guides and motor-bike drivers. Now There are lots and even there are also many tuk tuk drivers.
Most of the tourist they like to get on a tuk tuk. Because they felt more comfortable, especially when they had the kids with them. For me I didn't have a tuk tuk. I always took the tourists with my motor-bike through the farm, so they can see a real life of Cambodian people.
When the tourists they want to visit every places in Battambang, they need to spend at least two days.
My trip last time was, first I took tourist to visit the market, to see the Cambodian business life. We went walking around to buy some souvenirs. I asked my tourists if they wanted to have a photo shoot with Khmer traditional dress, then they said yes ! Why not?
Then we went into photo shop. The tourists they had to spent two hours to made up their face. When they started to wear Khmer traditional dresses, they looked very beautiful, like an Apsara dancer.
After token photo's shoot, we went further and drove through many small villages. We met many friendly farmers on the way. Most of the farmers they didn't see much tourist before. Sometime they just wanted to give my customers a hug of to touch their skin and nose. Some tourist they liked it, because they though it was sweet, but some of them they didn't like it. They got even nervous. The Cambodian they think it is pretty to have a pointed nose and white skin. Some woman of men they even put some chemical powder to make their skin white and made an expensive operation for the pointed nose like Michael Jackson.
We went further to another village through the fruit plantation. Then a friend of mine he explains the tourists how the farmers planted all kind of fruit like pineapples. Many tourists they didn't know, how the pineapples grow. They always though that it grow on the tree.
The next place, we went to see how the people they made fish past and dried salty fish in the fish factory. Most of the fish, they bough them from the fisher man at Tonlesap lake, the biggest lake in Cambodia.
After wards we continued to another small village called Ek phnom, to see how the peoples they made rice paper. This village is very famous with making rice paper. For one family they make like 1000 rice paper per day. It is very hard work for a woman to sit down ten hours per day in front of the hot fire. They sold this rice paper in the market and to the restaurant. This rice paper is for making spring rolls. Me and tourist also bough some tasty spring rolls from them.
Then we went forwards to buy bamboo sticky rice. Before we got there, we had to drive through many small streets. Then our tourists had to cross a tiny bamboo bridge, just for a tasty bamboo sticky rice.
It is not easy to make the bamboo sticky rice. First they had to cut the bamboo trees. Then they had to make like a bamboo cant, for to put the sticky rice, coconut milk, black been, palm sugar and salt in the bamboo cant. Afterwards they have to burn them in the fire. It took about three to four hours.
The last journey, we took tourists to eat something incredible.
First we went to the crocodile farm.
It is a big business to have a crocodile farm
When we were there, the farmers they were busy with preparing the crocodile.
It is crazy to be there every time. Outside of the farm there was a small restaurant and pub, which we could eat crocodile and other kind of food, like crecket, Cockroaches even smoke sneak. I would say many tourists they got scared to eat them, but in the end they like it a lot.
They said the crocodile and sneak taste like chicken and the crecket, cockroaches taste like kind of nuts. It´s sound horrible, but if we have to think that Cambodia have been in the war before and many people were died with starvation. When everyone wants to get survived so they had to eat everything.
In the end some tourists they were really drunk. We had to call a tuk tuk driver, because they couldn't sit on the back of a motor-bike. They had to much rice wine.
My excuse for the people who's protect and love the animals like crocodile, but what I wrote it is a true life story.
