Beauty in the Fly of the Beholder

Everyone Ooohs and Aaahs about dragonflies and butterflies. It is easy to appreciate the brilliant colors and interesting shapes. Plus butteflies are pollinators, everyone loves pollinators. And dragonflies catch other (sometimes annoying) insects, they don't bite us, and they can fly over 30mph! What's not to love!

Flies, on the other hand, everyone loves to hate. Maybe it is the fact they seek out feces and rotting flesh. Also, maybe maggots :)

Still it is worth remembering how beautiful a fly can be. Yes they are annoying and in some cases serious pests. They are also amazing pieces of engineering and visually striking as well.
