[Snaps] : By the river

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

Weekend strolling

I had so much fun with my last Snaps post, I couldn't wait to get another one out! There was some brilliant input from everyone on the last post and I would appreciate some more feedback again about how I can improve my photography further. There aren't any horses in this one but we have some more nature shots taken by the river. Hopefully, you like them!

We hopped in the car and traveled a little way out of the town. The weather was amazing and the sun was dropping so it gave me the opportunity to get the big ball of gas in a few shots. It was difficult to try and capture some photos without getting some serious lens glare but I think the photos I've taken capture the suns focus well.

Timber!

We walked past a tree and I had to climb up the bank to try and get a good shot of it. The exposed roots are fascinating and I really liked the way the tree leaned over the edge of the bank.

Underneath the picture below, there is also a couple of shots I took close up to the trees. I really liked the leaves that were growing up the tree and the depth shots really focus in on some of the finer details. There is some contrast and brightness added in the editing stage to try and highlight some of the details further.

Anyway, I wonder how long before the tree topples over...

Sun is shining

We found somewhere to take a seat and chill just before we approached the bridge. I had some time to experiment with the sun! The picture below is the shot I took after the top featured image and the one below that it is a closer shot of the tree in the center of the image.

I tried my best to reduce the sun glare on the photos but the photo closer to the tree had a half round glare on the left side of the image. In GIMP, I added a fake lens glare effect, onto the center of the blue lens glare from the original, and although I'm not sure if I like it; it definitely takes your eye off the blue glare.

Time to bounce

It was such a lovely day to be taking a walk and practising my photography. The sun was starting to drop back behind the clouds before long, and on the way back, I found this cool looking tree that had grown into a perculiar 'Y' shape. It fitted quite nicely between the two trees in the foreground and the vibrant greens from the tree really helped with the focal point. I added a little bit of brightness and contrast in the editing to make the greens pop a little bit more.

On the road back, we approached a tunnel and the photo I captured of it really draws your attention into the center of the image.

Let me know what you think

I'm really enjoying this new found interest in photography and as always, I'd love your advice and thoughts about how I could improve. I'm considering writing a post about how I approach my photos and speaking from a total laymans point of view. The way I approach my shots could help decide to grab your smartphone and give it a shot (or take the shot, that pun is up to you)!

If you want to use my images for any of your posts, feel free to take them and use them how you like. You can credit me if you want but I don't mind. You have my permission to use them as you wish (pre-warning though, if you do not credit your images at least at the very bottom of the post, stating where they are from, you may be approached by somebody to give the location where you sourced it. You will also not get your post curated by certain curation teams).

Teach me, give me tips and get critical!

Oh man you are good and the caption you have on the image gives it more depth!

Now it you want professional opinion and pointers I highly suggest connecting with @rubencress one of the best photographers in the platform and his posts are always entertaining to read.

Thanks for the feedback mate! I thought it would be good to give the images a little caption as a certain food for thought.

I connected with @rubencress on your advice and we have had some fantastic conversations. He gave me some excellent feedback regarding my photography. I appreciate the link.

Are you talking about my jibberish @maverickinvictus? :D

Hahaha yeah your humor, trash talking and overall craziness!

Its better to be crazy than standard :-p

Great pics. Looks like a fun hike. The One Plus 5 looks like it captures pretty good shots.

It's a great phone! The dual camera really does the job. I am going to experiment with the pro-mode in the future when I understand the settings a bit better.

Thanks for stopping by @brandonsadventur, it's been a while!

Ah, you caught the bug too. Photography is a great antidepressant, because it forces you to slow down and take it all in. The area you hiked is beautiful and has all the elements. Those are my favorite places.

Your next step is to fork out a pretty penny for a higher end camera. I just did that myself and although it's a good camera, I'll save you the trouble.

Don't consider a canon. Go for one that's mirrorless and do a lot of research. I bought the Canon T7i 800D video creator bundle.

You have a lot of great shots here. Pretty soon you'll only be using your own photos in your blogs. I can tell you it feels real good to put out content that is 100% your own creation.

I hope you stick with it, my friend.

Thanks for stopping by @notconvinced and leaving your thoughts. It's great to hear from you.

I have well and truly caught the bug, it's such an enjoyable experience to take snaps and then bring them back for editing and sharing. I'm just enjoying the act of it right now, maybe down the line I'll invest in a better camera.

I was in PYPT the other day and @TheBugIQ was talking about Fuji and the quality of their cameras. If I ever get into it seriously I will definitely consider purchasing one of their models. Right now though, I'm happy with the quality of my phone.

That is a great thought for sure. I like to really capture certain feelings with my images when I'm writing, you know, to try and stimulate some form of emotional response for the reading. Maybe in years to come I will have a library full of shots that will accompany my writing.

I will be sure to keep my Snaps series updated. I have licensed all my photos for free usage so if you ever want to use them you can stop by and 'snap' them up.

Again, great to hear from you buddy.
