Brief History of the Pantheon

in #photography7 years ago

The Pantheon is one of the greatest ancient buildings ever built. It was first built as a Roman temple during the reign of Augustus in 128 AD (thats over 118 years ago). The temple itself still stands today:

The roof of the Pantheon was the largest dome Rome ever constructed - it even has a hole on top called the oculus that is open to the sky. Yes this means that during a rainstorm, water would enter the temple. Luckily, drainage would drain the water out and keep the temple from flooding.

Fun fact : The dome of the temple was made out of concrete (yes romans had access to concrete!) and is still intact from ancient times!

Hi ,
Very interesting read, Thanks you for sharing it!

Interestingly I did a similar post but yours is better. It is one of the coolest buildings I’ve ever seen in person. I have many photos from that day. I just couldn’t get enough of it.

Awesome pics! Love the spiraling dome up to the sky :O

Nice lil' article!

There is a replica in Nashville, it's well worth checking out if anyone is heading to that area.

Amazing Photography! thanks for sharing a wonderful culture

Let's not forget that "Pantheon" also refers to the group of dieties that has usually numbered twelve since Sumerian times, through the Egyptians, the Hittites, the Greeks and finally to the Romans.

Have fun on your tavels, amigo.

Namaste,

Jaichai
