Silver Sea 2: illegal fishing vessels seized by the Indonesian Government
The Silver Sea 2 vessel was captured by the Indonesian Navy on August 12, 2015 in the sea of Sabang, Aceh. The ship with a size of 2,285 Gross Ton (GT) was captured while carrying 1.930 Metric Tons (MT) of Indonesian marine products.
Silver Sea 2 vessels have committed violations by shutting down the Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) and allegedly illegally transshipping Indonesian fish in Papua New Guinea.
Based on the decision of Sabang State Court Number 21 / pidsus / 2017 / PN SAB, the state was won in the case of Silver Sea 2.
The judges of Sabang State Court on Thursday (10/19/2017) decided the defendant on behalf of Yotin Kuarabiab who is a Thai citizen and the captain of the Silver Sea 2 vessel has been proven to violate Article 100 jo. Article 7 paragraph (2) sub-paragraph e of Law Number 31 Year 2004 as amended by Act Number 45 Year 2009 on Fisheries.
Then, the panel of judges decided the defendant was sentenced to Rp 250 million subsider 6 months of confinement, documents, Silver Sea 2 fishing boat, and 1,930 MT of mixed fish that had been auctioned on February 24, 2016 worth Rp 20.579 billion.
