Nowruz - New Year in the Iranian calendar

in #photography7 years ago

Today, on March 21, some peoples celebrate Nowruz holiday - a new year for the Iranian calendar.

As I learned from Wikipedia, despite the fact that, Nowruz is celebrated by people, mainly professing Islam, it turns out to be a national tradition, which has no relation to Islamic customs.

But I have a couple of photos of the mosque made during the December blizzard. And I wanted to publish them in honor of Nowruz, in order to congratulate people involved in this holiday.

Nowruz (Persian: نوروز‎‎ Nowruz; [nouˈɾuːz]; literally "New Day") is the name of the Iranian New Year, also known as the Persian New Year, which is celebrated worldwide by the Iranian peoples, along with some other ethno-linguistic groups, as the beginning of the New Year.

It has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin and the Balkans. It marks the first day of the first month (Farvardin) in the Iranian calendar.

20/21 of March is the spring equinox. It would be more logical to begin the year at this date, because this is the time of nature awakening. The ancient calendars had been conformed to the natural cycle but the Catholic Church has rewritten and falsified all facts.
