🔭Do you still need to compose with the 42Mpx camera? Or... Beginning of an end to telephoto lenses?🔭

in #photography6 years ago

This literally takes my street photography to a new level. 42 Mpx sensor of Sony A7R II lets you forget about composition. It even lets to forget you about telephoto lenses. When combined with silent shot feature (camera utilizes electronic shutter instead of moving physical curtain) THERE IS NO SOUND when you press the shutter button. At all... Stealthy ninja style paparazzi dream... 🐱‍👤🐱‍👤🐱‍👤 It can really spoil any photographer.

I took this shot of a tourist walking on the other side of the street with a 55mm lens. Just pointed it to a direction and clicked.... No sound... omg is my shutter dead?!?!? No, here is a picture :)

Now lets make simple composition with a rule of thirds by cropping in.

Oh, wait, you said your intention was to take a headshot? No problem, let's crop in even more!

I do not know how about you guys, but i find this ridiculous. In a few years some 100Mpx or 200Mpx cameras will be mainstream and we will be able to see what's in a persons ear.... And will definitely put viability telephoto lenses under a big question. Big, heavy, bulky, expensive and pointles...

What this really means is that you can get those saucy street level photos from an aircraft with a 1000mm lens and get fab poster-ready quality bikini shots. Something like that anyway...... :D

You are right lol Have't thought about that one. Just excited to get the same magnification on this camera with a 50mm lens that i used to on my 12Mpx Nikon D3s with 70-200 fully zoomed in :) Oh, and i forgot to mention pain in the back that comes with the previous setup :)

Haha man how did you know.... my entire motive for getting into photography was to photography whats in peoples ear. Now you have my hopes up, this better come true!!

We had the same motive then, i was also interested whet's in their nose lol

these Sony guys take sensors on all together different level. I could see Mole on lady's face and a few on her hands. Looks like its time to upgrade to A7R soon

Go with Zeiss lenses - can you go wrong?
No.
With full frame 42Mpx and a fast prime 55mm lens you can forget any tele lens less than 400mm and still get the shot - in a lot lower light than any tele you would want to carry for street photography.

PLUS if you want a really wideangle shot you can always overlap two shots horizontal or vertical with the 55mm to get it using panorama maker apps, free from edge distortion inherent in all but the most expensive superwide angle lenses

Techradar's review is interesting

FOR
High-resolution full-frame sensor
Small, weather-sealed body
High-end video features including in-camera 4K recording
AGAINST
Menu needs streamlining
Video record button awkwardly placed
Relatively limited range of lenses

BECAUSE YOU DON'T NEED THEM !!

You are absolutely right, how did not i think about making panorama by overlapping the images :D It would result on some 60Mpx panorama! So thanks for the tip. As for the menu's i do not mid, it's really ok, especially with programmable buttons. Do not shoot that much of video, but also Reasigned C2 for video so it's ok. As for the lenses... they have 55m Zeis. What else could you wish for :)
The only thing i'd like to have and which is already on Mark III is bigger battery and dual card slot. All the rest is trivia. Image quality is all that matters to me.

What else indeed?
Try shooting same vista at 3:2 and 1:1 ratios. Or a 1:1 triple stitch

I had a Pentax 55mm and I could have both eyes open for binocular vision as it was same as your eyes!

Fast 55s are the way to go with full frame sensors

A sad thing about the 'old' Zeiss and Leica film lenses is apparently not all are equal when it comes to delivering the same quality they do on film to digital sensors. Even within the same manufacturers range. The Elmarit 90 is still a cracker but the 35 and 19 in the same series just don't hit the spot anymore,

Things move on

Told a makeup artist friend about bescouted. Hope she picks up on it.
The more talent the better
As always there is strength in numbers

I like MF glass but more for wider lenses, for something like 50 if used for portrait photography i prefer autofocus as with shallow dof it's really hard to get that focus on a moving person's eye. Also their color rendition is different, nothing that can't be changed in post if such is your wish but still.
And thanks for promoting BS. She should, as of right now she's letting money flow around her :)

Yes, that's it, the colour rendition.
Unless you have good depth of field MF for 50 up is difficult if not impossible to work with on moving subjects to keep their eyes sharp even in comparatively static portrait setups
We press on
More power to you & BS
