Giant Advertisement for Small People | Street Photography

These are some ads on a street. The street is called Kudamm (short for Kurfuerstendamm - 'kurfuersten' were the princes to be in the former times, and a 'damm' is a road build over a swampy area). In fact, the street is famous, and it is more like a boulevard, lined with shops for branded articles, hotels etc.
On the street you see shoppers but to a large extent - like everywhere else - people working in offices, shops and restaurants nearby.

Well, here is the most expensive enterprise in the world displaying ads for its product.
I once read that if you want to be successful in advertising, then you don't need to list the features of your product but to show what you are able to do with the product from the consumers view, that's what Apple does here.

So here are the everyday people like you and me becoming giant stars through - well, what everybody does - making selfies (no special skills required to become a star).

But, unfortunately for Apple, most of the real everyday people on the street don't pay attention. In fact, I read today that one third of the people living in Berlin are against outdoor advertising. It is perceived as an annoyance. On the other side ads work on the unconsciousness, and this one is not to be overlooked. Also there are enough Germans who love Apple. So even if the effects of ads are demystified it still works:)

Generally I think that the effects of advertising are exaggerated, but Apple makes big profit, so they probably know how to do it.
