It is a popular dessert in Mexico, El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and other Central American countries such as Nicaragua, Honduras among other American countries, but also in Albania, Japan[2][3][4] and South Korea[5].

It consists of a sponge cake bathed in three types of milk: evaporated milk, cream and condensed milk, which give it its name. It is usually accompanied with egg white meringue and maraschino cherries and sprinkled with cinnamon powder. Usually the recipe does not contain butter and therefore has a spongy texture.

The decoration may vary depending on the region or the diner's taste. Fondant, chantilly or meringue can be used. 🔗

In my case, I do not use "evaporated milk" and the topping is "meringue", that is, egg whites with sugar beaten stiff and sprinkled with cinnamon. I often make the condensed milk myself by boiling the milk. It is a simple and absolutely divine dessert. Some people put everything from candied fruit to strawberries, peaches, etc. on top, it looks beautiful!
