Fossil Fuel Power Station

Kusile Power Station

This week I was sent to Kusile Power Station to go and inspect a small tower on the premises to help supply the construction workers with sufficient wireless signal to conduct business as the project has a significantly large workforce that currently used up the network's capacity thus the new site to upgrade capacity.

Operation of a Fossil Fuel Generator

The basic operation of a fossil fuel generator is the method of superheating steam to pass through a turbine that produces electricity as it rotates. In this case the fossil fuel is coal, that gets ground down to a fine powder that gets burned to heat up the boiler that in turn creates the steam, that gets heated further till it becomes superheated.

One of the most expensive parts of running the boilers is cooling the steam once it's passed through the turbine. There are a few methods used to cool the steam but the most cost effective is to have it cooled by a natural resource of water, such as a dam, but it's not always possible to locate a power station near such resources, so then either dams get built or they make use of cooling towers.

(Kendal Power Station)
Kusile is still in construction phase but one of the the generators is active producing 800 megawatt, once all six of the generators are active the power station will have the the capacity to produce 4,800 megawatt . The power plant will have its own built dams to cool the steam.

Enjoy the photos of the construction thus far.

Thank you for your support

Thank you, will do my best to deliver acceptable content.

Great Photo's and good to see that something is actually being done to help with our power problems!
