- Camera: Mamiya C330 TLR (6x6 Twin Lens Reflex)
- Lens: Mamiya Sekor 65 mm f3.5 (this is a wide angle lens with the medium format 6x6 film)
- Film: Fuiji Velvia 50 (discontinued & out of date film, but I still have a few rolls, and they mostly develop just fine)
- Filters: Cokin 81B Warming filter, and a Cokin Neutral Density Filter (this is a dark, non-colour shifting filter. It lets you open the shutter longer, without overexposing the shot)
- Exposure: 135 seconds @ f16 (seconds timed manually with a stopwatch, so that's 135sec give or take)
NB: This frame was cropped from square, and levels & curves adjusted in photoshop, from a scan of the film.
This shot was made by opening the shutter for more than 2 minutes. Doing this lets the water 'move' across the film. To do this you need to mount the camera on a sturdy tripod. I use an big heavy old Manfotto, with a ball & socket head. It's heavy, versatile and rock solid. Just the thing for long exposures when you're knee deep in freezing cold water!
The great thing about using an old 100% manual camera like this is that you have to calculate the exposure yourself, and when holding the shutter open for such a long time, you have to use a stopwatch to time it. Also, with expired film, the results can be unpredictable, but my session here, most frames turned out ok.
